AB de Villiers’s brilliant 82 off 44 balls and a great death-bowling effort by Navdeep Saini helps to take Royal Challengers Bangalore to their third consecutive win. They beat Kings XI Punjab by 17 runs, dropping into the bottom half of the table with their second consecutive loss.
After KXIP won the toss they elect RCB to bat first, RCB had a flying start by scoring 70 runs in loss of one wicket in powerplay but later the Spin duo R Ashwin and M Ashwin made RCB batsman struggle to score freely like they played in powerplay. KXIP didn’t conceded a single boundary in 7 overs but after 14th over De Villiers switch up the gear and started to dismantle RCB bowlers. Ankit Rajpoot’s 13-run over that included a six and a four got him going, from there KXIP were left with no answers in the death overs. And Marcus Stoinis coming into his own in the last over, belting two fours and two sixes against Hardus Viljoen. RCB posted 202 runs in 20 overs.
After solid start from KXIP openers Chris Gayle and KL Rahul, both loses their wicket when team needed them but Nicolas Poorana and David Miller looks good in middle overs but Saini was exceptional death overs. 36 runs needed off in 18 balls. Nicholas Pooran was on 43 off 23 balls, and David Miller on run-a-ball 21, KXIP looks good by having seven wickets in hand. Marcus Stoinis drop Pooran in 18th over, but Yadav conceded only six runs in the over, setting it up for Saini. Both Pooran and Miller fell in Saini’s next. And with 27 runs to defend in the last over, Umesh Yadav finished the job right. KXIP managed to score 185 runs off 20 overs.
AB De Villiers was awarded as man of the match for his anchor innings. RCB will take Delhi Capitals at sunday and KXIP will travel to Hyderabad to take SRH at monday.
